Careers at Manhattan Standard
This page is about working at Manhattan Standard. If you are looking for our coverage of careers and hiring in New York generally, that is in the Leadership section under Careers.
How we work
We are a small newsroom covering business, money and property in New York. Everything we publish is written for us — we do not republish, and we do not run automated feeds as editorial. That means the work here is reporting and writing rather than aggregation.
Editorial and commercial are separated. Nobody selling advertising has a say in what we cover or who appears on our lists, and we will not ask a reporter to soften a story for a client.
What we look for
- Reporters who can read a filing, a lease or a court record and explain what it means.
- Editors who improve a piece without flattening the writer out of it.
- People who check things, and who say so when they are not sure.
- Commercial colleagues who can sell clearly labeled work honestly.
We care more about what you have actually produced than where you trained. If your route into this work was unusual, that is not a disadvantage here.
Open roles
We list openings on this page when we have them, with the role, the reporting line and the salary range. New York law requires a good faith salary range in job advertisements and we would publish one regardless.
If nothing is listed, we are not currently hiring for a defined role.
Sending us something anyway
Speculative approaches are welcome and we read them. Send a short note about the work you want to do and two or three pieces you are proud of. For reporting roles, send published work rather than a pitch deck. We reply to what we can.
Freelance
We commission freelance reporting. Pitch a specific story rather than a subject area: what you think is true, how you would establish it, and why it matters to someone in New York. Tell us what you have already done to check it.
