Manhattan Standard Education is our program for schools, universities and organizations who want to use our reporting as teaching material.
Why our work suits it
We publish explanatory journalism about mechanisms: how a tax applies, how an approval is obtained, how a lease clause operates, how a filing should be read. That is closer to a teaching resource than to news, and it stays accurate for longer because we explain the mechanism and point elsewhere for the figures that move.
What the program covers
- Classroom licenses for our articles, including use in course packs.
- Guidance for teaching students to read primary sources — filings, permits, court records and property records.
- Sessions with our editors on how a story is reported and checked.
- Access for student journalists to our standards and correction practices.
Media literacy
We also cover our own commercial model, because it is a useful example. We sell paid features and we label them. Teaching students to spot the difference between disclosed commercial content and independent reporting is more useful with a real publication that admits to doing both.
Cost
Terms depend on the institution and the use. We would rather our work were taught than not, and we price accordingly for schools and non-profit institutions. Contact us with what you teach, to how many students, and in what format.
