About Manhattan Standard

Manhattan Standard covers business, money and power in New York — the founders building here, the capital moving through the city, and the property that houses both.

Most of what we publish is service journalism about how things actually work in this city: what a tax applies to, what a lease clause does, how an approval is obtained, what a contract really says. It is written for someone with a decision in front of them rather than for someone following the news.

How the newsroom is organized

Coverage is divided between nine sections — Business, Innovation, Leadership, Money, Real Estate, Entrepreneurs, Lifestyle, Culture and Power List — and each has its own desk and its own byline. Two desks are named for their beat rather than their section: Entrepreneurs is written by the Small Business Desk, and Power List by the Lists Desk.

Work appears under a desk byline, or under a named writer where one is credited. A desk byline attributes a piece to the team that produced it. It is long-standing newsroom practice, and unlike an invented reporter it is true. We do not publish under fictional names, and we do not attach a person's name to work they did not do.

How we are paid for

We fund reporting through advertising and through clearly labeled paid features. We sell feature coverage, and we say so on the page every time.

A paid feature carries a visible disclosure above the headline, and links to the subject's own sites are marked so search engines treat them correctly. Payment buys the commission, the reporting time and the production. It does not buy approval over what we conclude, a place on any list, or the removal of accurate reporting.

Nobody who sells advertising or paid features has any role in choosing who appears on our editorial lists. Our advertise page sets out what the packages are; our editorial standards page sets out the rules they operate under.

What we will not do

• Invent awards, rankings, credentials or statistics for anyone.
• Publish a paid feature without a visible disclosure.
• Take payment to remove or suppress accurate reporting.
• Present sponsored content as independent editorial.
• Attribute work to a person who did not do it.

Sourcing and figures

We report from public record — filings, permits, court records, property records and official guidance — and we link the source on the article. Rates and thresholds move, so where a number matters we explain the mechanism and point to the authority that publishes the current figure rather than freezing a value into an evergreen page.

Links to other sites

We link to sources, and to the sites of people and organizations we write about. A link is not an endorsement, and we do not warrant the accuracy or security of anything we link to. Links from a paid feature to the subject's own properties are marked so search engines treat them correctly.

Corrections

If we get something wrong we correct it on the article itself and note what changed and when. We do not quietly amend text. Send the article URL and the specific error to corrections@manhattanstandardmag.com.
