Brisbane 2032 chief executive Cindy Hook to step down when her contract ends
Cindy Hook will leave the Brisbane 2032 organising committee when her four-year contract ends, as recruitment for a successor starts immediately.

Cindy Hook, chief executive of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee, will step down when her four-year contract ends, the committee announced on 13 October 2026. The committee said the change coincides with its move from startup into project and event delivery, and that recruitment for a successor begins immediately. As of 14 October 2026, no successor has been named.
Brisbane was awarded the 2032 Games in July 2021 and will be Australia's third city to host a Summer Olympics, after Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000. Hook was appointed in December 2022 after a global executive search. She is a former chief executive of Deloitte Asia Pacific, and Sportzhub reports that the handover is intended to finish well before the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Governance: a handover at the start of delivery
Hook was chosen from more than 50 candidates, according to The Stadium Business. The Ministry of Sport reports that Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris called her "an exceptional leader" and praised her focus on financial and governance processes. He also credited the team she recruited.
Hook has said the foundations are in place and that the moment is right to hand over. Fox Sports reports that Brisbane 2032 board director Rebecca Frizelle said Hook led with "care, professionalism and unwavering commitment."
Under Hook, the Ministry of Sport reports, the committee built its core structure, framed its strategic Games Plan and launched the official emblems. The handover comes as the committee moves from building its structure into delivering venues and events.
Cost control: a 2022 goal with no current figures
The Stadium Business reports that making the Games cost-neutral was Hook's stated priority when she was appointed. None of the five reports read for this article publishes a current budget, cost forecast or spending figure. The sources therefore do not show how that goal is tracking.
The most concrete delivery item in the reports is a stadium. The Stadium Business reports a 63,000-capacity venue in Victoria Park, where the joint venture of BESIX Watpac and John Holland is the sole finalist to build it. Construction is set to start in 2027. After the Games, the stadium is to host the Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls, and it is planned with a 70,000 concert capacity.
Sponsor and government confidence: what the reports show
None of the reports includes a statement from a sponsor or a government. The Stadium Business says directly that its article carries no government or sponsor comment. The Ministry of Sport notes only that Queensland is preparing for long-term infrastructure and event logistics, and gives no figures.
The committee's own description of the next phase is commercial as well as operational. Sportzhub reports that the stage covers commercial partnerships, alongside event delivery and Games preparation. Ian Chesterman, president of the Australian Olympic Committee, said Hook's leadership "has laid strong foundations" for the Games, according to Fox Sports.
“The handover comes as the committee moves from building its structure into delivering venues and events.”
What the board must decide on a successor
The Brisbane 2032 Board has confirmed that recruitment for a successor will begin immediately. The Stadium Business reports that an appointment is expected in the coming months. The Ministry of Sport records no target date, so the timing remains open.
The reports conflict on when Hook leaves. Sportzhub says she will step down in early 2027. The AP-bylined copy on WinkNews says she is set to quit at the end of her four-year contract, with no month given. A Fox Sports copy says the contract runs out this year. The reports read for this article do not resolve the difference.
The reports do not say what criteria the board will apply or who sits on the search panel. Until a name is announced, both the handover date and the successor's start date remain open.
